The Weeping Monk

The Weeping Monk is an optional boss located in the Lector's Archive, brandishing a scythe made by Udex and is a possible victim of "corruption", along with the mysterious S-Unit that is also in the room.

Pre-Fight

The weeping monk will be standing inertly inside of the church-like room within the lector's archive. Once Sen enters the room, the battle will begin.

Attacks

Scythe Combo
  • Description: The Weeping Monk slices with its scythe twice before using an overhead slash, jamming its scythe into the ground.
  • All attacks are parryable.
  • Followed up by either Spinning Slash Launch or Scythe Slam
Spinning Slash Launch
  • Description: The Weeping Monk spins and backs up, sweeping their scythe across the ground and sending a grounded, spinning, follow-up slash. They will then follow up with an orb shot.
  • All attacks are Parryable.
  • Parrying the orb will stagger The Weeping Monk.
Scythe Slam
  • Description: The Weeping monk Jumps into the air, before slamming the scythe into the ground and generating a shockwave.
  • Can be parried.
Whirlwind Slash
  • Description: The Weeping Monk rapidly spins, sweeping their scythe along the ground. They make a total of 6 rotations, but parrying the attack 5 times will stagger The Weeping monk.
  • Can be parried.

Post-Fight

After defeating The Weeping Monk, it will collapse and fall onto the ground, with a mysterious black material (possibly smoke but may also be "corruption") emanating out of it. This material will go through the ceiling and disappear, along with a number of benches that will rise up out of the ground, making the surrounding area mimic a church more than it already did. You will also obtain the Udex Usurper, as well as (If you did not select the Core Dash at the beginning of the game) the Core Dash, if the core dash was selected you will get some heads instead.

Tips, Tricks, and Trivia

  • The Weeping Monk is almost always attacking, so time your attacks well, use drone modules, and when it is staggered, make it count. Also, pay attention to follow ups in order to time your parries.
  • The scythe that The Weeping Monk uses is likely (Now confirmed to be as of Demo 3) of Udex craftsmanship, as there is another S-Unit in the room, and The Weeping Monk is constantly taking damage throughout the fight (first demo). This is because only S-Units can use Udex Weaponry without the backlash.
